Running Club News 01/10/18

There has been a lot of running going on all over the place recently. Well done to all those who are still out there pounding the streets. Here is a quick summary of what the last few weeks have been like –

Friday 21st September

I was delighted to be escorted round the 5.1mile route with Mother and Daughter, Sue and Jo, today. Both the ladies totally smashed it with Sue, in particular, very speedy! She finished in just 48m45s with Jo just 32seconds behind. Well done ladies, it was great to see you.

Sunday 23rd September

The New York Marathon team braved the freezing wet Sunday morning and set off on their 18mile journey. We were supported for the duration by Leon and Carl and latterly joined by Charles.  We were also well supported by the families of Katie and Melissa who donned flags and plaques and provided water and food on regular intervals. This made the 3hours and 23minutes much more bearable. Thank you. We all made the 18.25miles and so set new records for the furthest non-stop run for us all. Next up 21miles on Saturday 6th October.

Monday 24th September

Following yesterdays mammoth run, it was agreed in advance that the running club this evening would be a “recovery run!”

3.3miles was the route and everyone stuck to just getting round, loosening up the legs and feeling our way around the aches and pains! Everyone achieved 10mins per mile. Although Carl put on a sprint finish to pass Nick and I on the home straight to to get us back for last weeks pass – Touche!

Friday 28th September

It was the Nick show today! Nick C and Nick B turned up and we ran the 5.1mile route together for a good time and average of 9m 11s per mile. A pleasing run in good conditions (i.e. no hangovers!)

Sunday 30th September

A few of the ENJOY runners were out competing early this morning in the Ageas Bowl 10k race. Nina and Cat did fantastic completing the route in 1h09m. Carl hit the front a bit early but still recovered for a great time of 53minutes. Well done team!!

Monday 1st October

Cat and Nina used this evening as a recovery run following yesterdays fantastic achievement on the 10k race. For Nick, Carl and I it was a chance to stretch the legs again. 6.2miles doesn’t seem that far now when you are doing 18s!! But finishing with an average of just over 9mins per mile does make a difference. Charles had a great run too. Sponsored this week by the Silver Fern, he was well fueled with beer and mixed grill having prepared for the run by watching the Ryder Cup all weekend. You could never tell though as he smashed the 5.1mile route in under 10mins per mile.

Well done to all the runners, Same routes next week for the last time.

We are also running 21 miles this Saturday if anyone would like to join us. 7am from ENJOY.  The route will be posted on Facebook this week.
