Running Club News 6/3/17

Friday March 3rd

A very wet start to the run this morning which put a few people off attending. It did brighten up as the run went on and the rain kept the dust down! Theresa was back for her 2nd Friday since June 2016 and showed a huge improvement on last week, finishing nearly a whole minute quicker, well done T! Mandy showed she is definitely a morning runner as she took off over 3 minutes from her time at last Mondays running club on the same route. Well done Mandy, even quicker next week! Lisa also improved 2 minutes from last weeks time as she returns to fitness from her 5 weeks off. Greg had a great run last week and so upped the distance this week, his average speed was similar to last week even with the extra mile. Well done Greg! Rich also upped the miles and he completed 5.1miles for the first time ever and in a great time too. The shy and retiring Richard also stopped to do some star jumps in the middle of Warsash village and finished in style with a quick tribute to Mo Farah! Nick also had a great run finishing in a sub 8 min mile average for the first time since the Stubbington 10k!! Well done Nick!!

Monday March 6th

Some impressive performances this evening. Especially Carl, who ran with Pete for much of the route, but when Pete turned for home at Church Road, Carl had the bravery (stupidity) to turn left and do the longer route. His determination paid off though as he smashed a 8m 46s average!! His fastest run since October!! Awesome Carl, well done! The girls, Sharon, Nina and Sharon teamed up and helped each other round the route. On the final straight up Thornton Road Jo was catching them, not wanting to be beaten Sharon made a bolt for home,  and “Speedy Sharon” as she should now be known finished very strong, with neither Jo or myself able to catch her!

Alistair was back to the running club for his first run with us since the Great South Run. He has been running on his own and it showed as he sped off from the start and kept with the front runners for the majority of the run. His 9m 12s per mile was extremely impressive for a first run back and we look forward to seeing him again next week.

Gemma has been doing a huge amount of miles recently as she prepares for her half marathon in a couple of weeks. The miles are telling though as a few little niggles are creeping in. She did well this evening and acted as a pace setter for Charles who was chuffed to bits with his 9m 20s per mile average. A 7s per mile quicker than last week! Well done!

Nick followed up his impressive Friday run with a solid performance, deducting 2 mins from last Mondays time! It was Pete’s first time on this route and he didnt shy away from it, achieving his best time of 2017!! So some great performances this evening team, well done!

Last time on these routes next week.
