We continued this evening with the cross country theme along a 5mile route. At the end all the runners were saying “that was a tough run”; “It was close, humid, the lanes were full of puddles and required negotiating around”; “The course had lots of hills and was hard work”. What a load of moaners!! Well, even with all these issues they all run brilliantly with most beating or getting very close to PBs!!
Firstly, Maggie had a new training partner this evening running with Jody as “Sat Nav” was on holiday. Her new coach put her through her paces well and Maggie came out with a new personal best split time – 10m 03s per mile. Absolutely awesome Maggie, well done!!! And well done to Jody for running with her! Jo also achieved a new PB today, she kept with her tactics of starting near the back and hunted down the runners on route. But this week, Sandy saw her creeping up behind him and with about a mile to go he put his foot down and open his stride up. Jo, fueled by cider (possibly a new sponsorship deal!), couldn’t quite catch him but the extra push got her to a new PB of 9m 14s, very fast Jo and you are just getting better and better each week, well done!! As for Sandy, his competitiveness resulted in his quickest time since August last year and by far his best in recent weeks, Sandy is BACK!!! Well done!
At the start of the race a cloud of dust was left as Mike disappeared down Pitchponds Road, he was closely followed today by Pete though. We had to check his footwear after as someone hinted he might be wearing heallies (wheels on the bottom of your trainers) to go faster down the hills! But they were fine. Pete’s performance in trying to keep up with Mike resulted in his best run since September 2102!!! Awesome Pete and on a really tough run too, well done!! Mikes result wasn’t bad either, his 7m 01s was just a 2 seconds per mile away from his PB too!!
Also having a great run this evening was Alistair. He started off fast, was fast in the middle section and towards the end, well, he was fast!! A very consistently fast run from Alistair you might say!! His result of just 8m 50s per mile was just 4 seconds per mile outside his Personal Best set last September. He is sure to beat it very soon!! Well done Alistair!
Charles and Greg were in the middle of the pack of runners today and spent a little time trying to push each other in puddles on the way round. Both got round reasonably dry though and in good times too, both under 10mins per mile. Well done gentlemen!
Same routes next and hopefully a dryer course.
