A great turnout this evening for the Warsash based running club as the Great South Run closes in. Just 7 more running club meetings to go before the big run!!
It was hoped that the runners w0uld up the ante this evening but they chose the shorter route of 4.4miles rather than the 5.8m alternative. The longer run will be made compulsory next week for those capable at this stage as it is important to get the miles in the legs before the big day. There was a compromise this evening however, as the runners may have chosen a shorter route but they worked very well as many Personal Bests would achieved as they focused on speed rather than distance.
Out front, Pete, Bruce, Paul and Alistair set a great pace, completing the course within 6 seconds of each other. For Alistair, this was his best ever performance taking 4 seconds per mile off his PB achieved last week. For Bruce and Paul this was there fastest time this year, only beaten as they approached last years Great South Run! So preparation is going well!!! For Pete, it was his first run for 6 weeks and a great pace to return to! Well done team!! Charles was not far behind and he achieved his Personal Best this evening as well, a fantastic 9m 14s per mile, hopefully another incentive to twist his arm to do the Great South this year!! Mexico or no Mexico you should be there!
Juliette and Greg also achieved personal bests this evening. Jules improved on her first run with the club last week with a sub 10min per mile speed and Greg matched his best ever 10m 31s per mile!!
So overall, a fantastic run team!! Really impressed as 5 PBs achieved and 2 seasons bests as well. Longer routes next week team as you have proved this evening you are fit enough!!
