Monday Running Club News 27/1/14

Near perfect conditions for this evenings Warsash Running Club Meet. There was not a cloud in the sky and although it was chilly to start everyone warmed up very quick. “Quick” was the appropriate word this evening as everyone had an amazingly fast run as we completed these routes for the third and final time.

Out front Mike Y set the pace as usual. However, this evening Pete kept him in his sights and along the Warsash Road straight Pete made his move to overtake. Mike was taken by surprise but had enough in his tank to pull away again. The friendly competition was enough for Mike Y to knock another 7 seconds off the course record and keep himself under 8 minute miles and continue his impressive recovery from injury. For Pete it meant the quickest lap time he has produced since October as he got very close to the 8 mins per mile average! Well done for pushing yourselves this evening Gents!

Greg was back from Tenerife this evening and although he managed a run out there we weren’t expecting the type of performance he produced this evening. Spurred on by keeping Sandy in his sights he finished the 4.3mile lap in an average of just 10m 08s taking nearly 2 minutes off his time on this course 2 weeks ago! Brillaint Greg, well done! Sandy was certainly helping as the pace setter and he himself produced his best performance since his injury before Christmas. His sub-10min mile average was his fastest since August last year……HE’S BACK!!!!

Bruce and Kate ran together again this evening, although there was less talking this evening. They couldn’t understand why though until they saw their time…..nealry 2 and a half minutes quicker than last week and just 10m 20s per mile!! Now thats quick!! We just need to encourage Kate to enrol on the Eastleigh 10k now as many of you have done so already. If you havent you can enrol now (be quick!) at http://www.runningmania.co.uk/..

Mike and Maggie have promised me that they will both be entering the Eastleigh 10k when they get in tonight. It will be Maggies first competitive run and her first medal! She deserves it though having taken up running regularly with the club after the birth of her 1st child a year ago. She has come on a long way since she started and tonight was no exception. They finished the route close to a 11minute mile average, taking nearly 2 minutes off the route 2 weeks ago!

Well done for an exceptional evening team! Excellent!

Next week we will look to slow down slightly and go a little further as we build up for the Eastleigh 10k
