Monday Night Running Club News 10/3/14

The final countdown has started, with just 13 days to go to the race! Peoples number have started to arrive in the post today so that added a bit of excitement to the running club this evening. This was the penultimate run before the event and with next weeks running club meeting going to be close to 10k tonight was really the last chance to work on speed!

Although Mike isn’t able to do the Eastleigh 10k he certainly set the standard for everyone to follow this evening. As soon as the words “Go” had left my lips he was off and nearly at the end of the road before most of us could even get satellite connection on the Garmins! It was his fastest run at this distance by some way talking a whole minute off last weeks time!! His run seemed to drag everyone along with him as everyone seemed to step up a gear this evening. Pete has improved massively over the last 3 runs and tonight was no exception. He took well over a minute off last weeks time and averaged under 8mins per mile for the whole 5.6miles! This was only the 2nd time since March last year Pete has achieved such a quick split time and this route was a lot longer! Fantastic Pete, well done!

The most improved award for the evening though went to Jo! She shaved off nearly 2 minutes from last weeks amazing time to achieve her personal best average with the running club. A fantastic achievement bearing in mind the tough and long course that she had just run. He average of 9m 33s is extremely fast and 3 seconds per mile quicker than the PB she set on Friday on a shorter route! Well done Jo!! As per usual Jo started at the back and worked her way through the runners. She didn’t quite catch Charles this evening though as he was a little elusive finishing just a few seconds ahead! The rush to the line and the pressure from Jo certainly made a difference to Charles though as he beat last weeks time by just a few seconds. It was a very impressive average of 9m 31s though, well done Charles!

Bruce was back this evening and kept Sarah company on the 3.6mile route. Sarah ran the 5.4m  route on Saturday in 56m 20s and average of just 10m 26s! A brilliant achievement. She was a little slower this evening, but Saturdays run shows she is more than ready for the Eastleigh 10 now!!

Alistair had a re-occurrence of his ankle injury this evening and did exceptionally well to complete the run, although it was slightly slower than last week it was still a very quick 9m 45s. He finished at the same time as Juliette who also struggled a little this evening. It does show the importance of good nutrition in preparation for any run over 5miles. I will send out a recommended eating plan in preparation for the Eastleigh 10k very soon!

Greg had a much better run this evening taking nearly 4minutes off his time two weeks ago for the same course! His 10m 25s per mile was also his fastest run for well over a month and it seems the old Greg is back and fired up just in time for the Eastleigh 10!! Well done Greg!

Next week we will do a 10k route (or just under) for those doing the Eastleigh 10k, there will be other options available for those who aren’t running the 10!
