Great South Run Results 2012

A great day for the Warsash Running Club – New Life Training! We had a record number of entries in this year’s Great South Run and everyone excelled themselves!
We had many GSR 1st timers today; Nick, Paul, Sharon, Nancy, Liam and Jules. All of whom completed the 10mile route without stopping and in very quick times too! Well done in particular to Sharon, she started running with the Monday night running club just 6 weeks ago. Her first outing with us was a struggle as she attempted a 2.5mile route. 6 weeks on and a lot of hard work and she complete the GSR 10mile route in just over 2hours. Awesome Sharon and well done!!

For Paul this was the furthest he has ever run and this time last year he would have just laughed if you had told him he would complete the GSR non-stop in an average pace of 9m30s per mile!! Through a combination on Personal Training and the running club Paul has managed to lose over 3stone in the year and started running to the point where he is now just getting faster and faster!

Nick undertook an intense 8 week Personal Training course leading up to the GSR. The distance was never going to be a problem but he wanted a good time. The training clearly worked as he finished just 3 minutes behind his trainer, who is now very nervous that someone will beat him in the next run!! At the 10k marker Nick was just 30seconds behind Mark and his final speed average of 8mins per mile matched Marks record from last year, well done Nick, but no more PT for you!!!

Bruce also managed his furthest distance non-stop taking a huge 5 minutes of last year’s time, and Liam managed the whole route without a “pee-stop!” allowing him to put in a great time of 1h 44m in his first GSR! Liam was lucky to make it to the start on time however, a big thank you to Fiona, his wife, who had to rush his race number back from Warsash after it got left behind!!
Jules started Personal Training for the GSR several months ago and has done exceptionally well, slowly building up her distance and then her speed. This was the furthest she had ever run and produced her Personal Best time as well with an amazing 10m 48s average. Well done Jules!!

Julie was completing her third consecutive GSR, and having been the inspiration for New Life Training (She was the 1st ever PT Client) she has improved year after year. Her first run was 2h00m03s just missing out on her target time by 3 seconds, last year she finished in a fantastic 1h56s, but this year was awesome!!! She finished in just 1h 49s a massive improvement over the 3 years! Well done Julie! She is doing a marathon soon, so we will watch out for how she does there!! Julies running partner this year was Christine, she completed her first GSR in a fantastic 1h 43s and was also first to the pub for the after run champagne reception and lunch, se clearly had some energy left after the 10miles!!

Nancy hates running, always has and always will! It was amazing to see her running the GSR for the first time especially after all her recent injuries. Her bad heel and shoulders didn’t affect her though as she flew round the course in 1h 49s. I hope we can encourage you to do it again next year Nancy.

Running their 2nd GSR we had Alan, Katrina and Alistair. Alan had a fantastic run taking a huge 8 minutes off last year’s time for the biggest improvement of any of our runners. Alistair wasn’t able to put in the same amount of training as he did last year and off the back of just 2 three mile runs in the last 2 months he did very well to complete the course non-stop. Katrina had a great run again this year and certainly looked happy at the end and ready to book in again for next year.

The Great South Run is the best 10mile run in the world, it is flat and fast and on our doorstep. I hope all the runners from this year will enrol again for next years run and many more of you will be inspired to sign up and come and join New Life Training Running Club on a Monday evening 6.30pm at Osborne Road Rec to prepare for next years run.

In the meantime, the next run for NLT is the Stubbington 10k on January 20th. This is a very popular run so make sure you book in early!!
